Betting on horse racing can get pretty complicated but once you get a hang of the gambling jargon, you can really get a taste of the full experience of a day at the tracks. Here are a few of the more popular terms that you need to know:

The simplest bets are the Win, Place and Show bets. Win means that your horse has to cross the finish line first. For place and show, you still win money if your horse comes in up to second and third place respectively.

A Daily Double is when you bet that a horse will win two races in a row. You can also bet a Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 6 for 3, 4 or 6 consecutive wins respectively.

The Handle tells you how much money is wagered in each betting pool.

The next time you’re betting on horse racing, try out a couple of these terms and see how people react. If you put in the effort to learn, a lot of race fans will actually be happy to help you out.
