Since the track first opened in 1996, Emerald Downs has hosted the Longacres Mile Handicap, a Grade III event that has been held annually since 1935.

Located in the Seattle-Tacoma corridor, Emerald Downs is also home to some of the most exciting $100,000 stakes races in the Pacific Northwest, such as the Emerald Downs Derby, Emerald Distaff, Gottstein Futurity, and the Washington Oaks.

The track has a one-mile oval, with the bid-board in the center of the track, surrounded by a six-level stadium. Aside from the exciting horse races, the track also has free stable tours available on Saturday mornings, and other special events that the entire family can enjoy.

Built as a modern replacement to the legendary Longacres track, which was closed in September 1992, the track made its debut to a large crowd in 1996.

Open from April to October, the track hosts a number of large ungraded stakes as well as overnight handicaps and stakes. But its biggest race is the Longacres Mile Handicap, running annually since June 1935. With an initial $10,000 purse, it was the largest staked one mile race in the United States for over 40 years. May 22, 2005 saw Sabertooth set the world record for 6.5 furlongs in a minute and 13 seconds here as well.
