TVG offers a satellite television program that is dedicated to providing live coverage of many of the races that are run at the country’s most popular horseracing tracks. On most days, horseracing fans will be able to enjoy over sixteen hours of live horseracing simply by watching TVG. What makes TVG racing different is that viewers are able to watch a variety of different breeds’ race, instead of only getting to watch one breed compete all day long.

One type of TVG racing that viewers will be able to enjoy every day is harness racing. With harness racing, a single horse will pull a lightweight cart that is carrying the driver. The breed of horse that is used with harness racing is the Standardbred. This breed of horse can compete at two different gaits, the pace and the trot. It is important to note that trotters will usually only compete against other trotters and pacers will usually only compete against other pacers.

Another breed of horses that can routinely be seen on TVG racing is Quarter Horses. What makes this breed different from the Standardbreds and the Thoroughbreds is that the horses will run sprints at shorter distances. The longest Quarter Horse race is 880 yards; however, it is not uncommon for Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds to race over one mile in length. Quarter Horse races are usually only broadcast on the weekends.

Thoroughbred racing can also be seen on the TVG network on a daily basis. Many of the racetracks that are covered by TVG will have different types of Thoroughbred races throughout the day. Many times the tracks will run allowance races and claiming races on the week days and stakes races on the weekends. More information about TVG racing can be found at TVG.com.
